BNEI AKIVA DURBAN

Bnei Akiva, Durban began in 1974, having aligned itself to Bnei Akiva International, which is operational in over 28 countries worldwide. Its objectives are to merge religious beliefs (Torah) with and involvement in the world today (avodah) and Zionist (Eretz Yisrael).

Bnei Akiva is a religious movement and provides a Jewish environment in which all participants are afforded the opportunity to extend their knowledge, irrespective of the extent of their own standard of observance.

Bnei Akiva Durban runs weekly meetings, regular Shabbatonim and Shabbat shiurim. Bnei Akiva holds a three week camp in the Cape in December.

There are many programmes available through Bnei Akiva, both on a national and international level. Amongst others are Hadracha Tzeira, which is aimed at Grade 10 and MTA/Tafnit for Matric students. Hadracha Tzeira is a 3-week long programme during which the group tours Israel. Both MTA and Tafnit are 11-month-long post-matric programmes. With MTA, students are based in a Midrasha/Yeshiva and tour Israel during the holidays. With Tafnit the year is divided into two-month segments when students experience different aspects of Israeli society.
