CHIVA

The CHIVA (Children’s HIV Association)/KZN Support and Mentoring Initiative was launched in September 2004 to support the National Antiretroviral (ARV) Roll-Out Programme. Pioneered by Dr. Karyn Moshal, a UK-based paediatrician originally from Durban, the initiative brings out healthcare professionals from the United Kingdom and Ireland to share clinical knowledge and experience with their KZN colleagues.

While CHIVA volunteers do not receive payment for their time, their flights, accommodation, transport, food, and basic needs while in the country are funded by the JAKAMaR Trust and the Victor Daitz Foundation through the Prince Nelisuzulu Benedict Gift, named in honour of Prince Buthelezi’s son who died of Aids in 2004. CHIVA operates under the auspices of the CKNJ, who are proud to be associated with its achievements.
