The women’s sector of the Durban Progressive Jewish Congregation (DPJC), the Sisterhood of Temple David, was initiated to assist with all activities that were needed for the effective, practical and positive running of the congregation. Its motto of “Sisterhood means service” encapsulates one of the supreme commandments of Jewish law: “Love thy neighbour as thyself”.

The Sisterhood contributes to both the general and Jewish communities through acts of service, goods and financial donations, and seeks to serve its underprivileged fellow human beings who are marginalized and in need – in every sector of society – by providing help, support, and alleviation of poverty and suffering. The Sisterhood of Temple David is affiliated to the CKNJ and is a member of its Council
