THE CHAVERIM PROJECT

There is a small corner of Durban where, in a quiet and unassuming way, great mitzvot (good deeds) take place daily. Chaverim means friends, and this is the focus of this wonderful social project. Under the auspices of the Durban United Hebrew Congregation, Chaverim are responsible for the running of the Thrift Shop at Beth Shalom, our senior home. A group of dedicated volunteers ensure that the shop is stocked, organized, and administered so that the residents of Beth Shalom can buy clothing and underwear in the comfort of the home.

Chaverim also facilitates the Sabba and Safta (Granny and Grandpa) project, where Jewish volunteers assist at a local school, reading with children from less privileged backgrounds. The CKNJ lauds the values of love and support that the Chaverim Project offers our community.
